Pierce, Temple Blast Buffalo, 34-0

Pierce crossed the 100-yard barrier for the fifth time this season, and set school season marks for rushing touchdowns (17), overall touchdowns (17) and points (102). He also surpassed the career mark for total touchdowns (44).

Even his backup joined the party. Matt Brown ran for 120 yards and a score on 12 carries as the Owls (5-2, 3-1 MAC) compiled 400 yards on the ground, and owned 39:08 time of possession, never really giving the Bulls (2-5, 1-2) an opportunity to fight back.

Temple, which has played one more conference game than the rest of the league, remains in first place in the MAC East Division, and evened its home record at 2-2.

Buffalo has lost four of the last five games.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bernard Pierce ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, and set new Temple rushing records along the way, as the Owls blasted Buffalo, 34-0, on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field.

Pierce became Temple's single-season and career rushing leader with his performance, as he crossed the 100-yard mark for the fifth time this season.

Halftime: UConn 10, Buffalo 3

The Huskies lead Buffalo 10-3, but it has not been pretty. Then again, when has a Huskies game been pretty of late.

Coach Paul Pasqualoni has used all three quarterbacks again. Johnny McEntee has the only touchdown pass of the day, a 4-yarder to fullback Mark Hinkley. That was set up on a nice 64-yard reception from Nick Williams. But once again the Huskies have struggled to run the ball.

They have 43 yards rushing and are averaging 2.4 yards a rush. Lyle McCombs has 36 yards on 12 carries. D.J. Shoemate does not have a carry.

First and 10: A star is born … in Buffalo?

NFL.com StaffPublished: September 21st, 2011 | Tags:

Okay, so Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t thrown for a gazillion yards in his first two games like Tom Brady has, but he is tied with Brady and Matthew Stafford for the NFL lead with seven TD passes. Three of those came in Buffalo’s wild 38-35 win over Oakland on Sunday. In case you missed that thriller — or just need to see it again — you can relive all the action on “NFL Replay” Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network. Not that you’ll need an appetizer for that football feast, but you can also hear from Fitzpatrick himself on “NFL Total Access” at 7 p.m. ET. No doubt, he’ll have lots to say about that Raiders-Bills game — not to mention his Sunday showdown with Brady and the Patriots.

Here’s what else is on tap for Wednesday:

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon refuted pre-draft critics who said Cam Newton didn’t have the chops to succeed in the NFL. Look who’s laughing now.Willie McGinest, Mike Mayock and Michael Lombardi share their favorite memories of Patriots coach Bill Belichick when Part 2 of “A Football Life” debuts Thursday night at 10 ET on NFL Network. If your fantasy team has been ruined by injuries — or if you just did a lousy job of drafting — NFL.com gives you the chance to start all over again. And the best thing? Your statistics are retroactive! So stop by the NFL.com draft lobby and start over.Want to get NFL.com’s top 10 headlines sent to your inbox daily? Gridiron Gab Week Fifteen Preview: Buffalo at Miami

Well, if it were not for the loss against the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago, the Dolphins would be right in the middle of the playoff race right about now. Instead, despite a win against the New York Jets, the Dolphins still are on the outside looking in. Even with a win this week against the Buffalo Bills, it will take a lot as well as Miami winning out, for them to make the playoffs. But for that to happen, they have to beat the Bills first of all, and to do that they will need to follow these three keys;

3. Improvements To Be Made:

After last weeks game there were numerous improvements that needed to be done. From the pass protection, to the quarterback play, to even catching the ball, things needed to be corrected before this weeks game.

While the Bills are a lowly team this year, that does not mean that they cannot come out on top Sunday. This is a division game and anything can happen. We all saw what the Bills did to us last year around this time, and it very well could happen again if our offense does not get its act together. The whole offensive unit was down last week and while it may be chalked up to a complete fluke, one can wonder with just how good this offense is? Every week I have called for them to show us what they’ve really got, and to show everyone the potential that they have, but every week my calls go unanswered.

So based off last weeks performance, we will see this weekend whether or not this offense can make the correct adjustments, and get their act together, but time is running out for them to show up this year.

2. Act 2:

Last week the defense led this team to victory against the Jets. The last time the Bills and Fins met up in Miami on Opening Weekend, it was the defense that led the team to victory as well, thanks to an inept offense. So what will be in store for Act 2 of this defensive performance? It is against the much weaker teams that show you how good your team really is, and whether or not they are simply mediocre, or belong up there with the solid teams that feast on their weaker foes.

On paper the Dolphins defense, which is ranked in the top ten this year, should manhandle the Bills offense. Our corners have been playing shutdown ball as of late, our front seven, especially Cameron Wake, has been getting to the quarterback on a consistent basis, and our linebackers have been stuffing the run game after game. This defense is simpy one of the best in the league, and because of it, we should have a couple more wins that we do. So in the case that the offense craps the bed once again tomorrow, it will be on the shoulders of the defense to carry this team to victory against the Bills. I’m specifically looking for Wake to continue his torrid pace of getting to the QB this weekend against a weak Buffalo line.

1. Play Up To Your Potential:

I’ve already mentioned it a couple times above. The Dolphins are simply a better team than the Bills, and the end result should show it. The Dolphins have a top 10 defense finally, and it has looked dominant as of late, and has more than made up for the ineptitude of the offense. But over the past couple of years the Dolphins have been prone to losing games they should not, such as the Browns game, and Bills game last year. If the Dolphins are to show us that they truly are improving somewhat, they must beat the Bills handily, and not make this a close game. The Dolphins also need to show that they can win at home. This is something they have struggled mightily with so far this season. A win against a division rival at home would be nice, and a stepping stone for the Dolphins. While we all know that the Dolphins are better than the Bills, they must prove it on the field for everyone else to believe it as well.

Final Prediction:

Sadly, I see this one ending up in the defense’s hands again. But the Fins will come out victorious, 17-10. While it won’t come down to the special teams and the battle of field possession like last week, it will be another division showdown, and another defensive battle. While the door is open for the offense to open up, I really do not see it happening at this point in the season.

Dear coach, you can beat Buffalo without Peterson

Dear Leslie Frazier,

I feel that we have become pen pals in recent weeks. And I do appreciate you taking my advice to run the football repeatedly against the Redskins. That was huge. Only RB Adrian Peterson‘s bum ankle kept that plan from working out perfectly.

But I need you to listen to me again.

Please keep Peterson on the bench. I know that you said that Peterson’s ankle injury would probably come down to a game-time decision. No, make that decision now. That decision should be to keep him on the bench.

I understand your unwillingness to do so. I mean, it’s easy for me to say, seeing I am not the one auditioning to be the coach of the Los Angeles, oops, I mean Minnesota Vikings next year. But we have seen these ankle injuries become too problematic because the players are rushed back into the lineup way too quickly.

And if you don’t want to listen to me, just go ahead and call your pal Norv Turner in San Diego. Ask him how RB Ryan Mathews is coming along.

That’s the thing, coach. You put Peterson in the lineup, he runs wells for a couple of plays, maybe, and then he pulls up lame and is gone for the game. And then all of those fantasy enthusiasts who put Peterson in their lineup — almost out of obligation — will be left with maybe a handful of fantasy points. If they are that lucky.

The best thing to do is to run rookie RB Toby Gerhart — and not just because I added him off the waiver wire. Honestly, if you cannot beat the Bills without Peterson, I am not sure you deserve to be the coach.

Now I understand that you might just be pulling a rouse, so the Bills have to study film on Peterson. But believe me coach, I am not even sure that the Bills study film. In fact, I am not sure that they even practice. And if they do practice this week, they will likely spend all of that time reteaching WR Stevie Johnson how to catch. The Bills look like some pickup football team that gets together for a game every Thanksgiving.

So let’s end the charade and put Gerhart in the lineup. Then he becomes a start of the week, puts up a great stat line and everybody goes home happy.

Regards.

Buffalo Bills: 1991 Video Yearbook (Includes Super Bowl 26 Highlights) [VHS]

Buffalo Bills: 1991 Video Yearbook (Includes Super Bowl 26 Highlights) [VHS]Often overlooked on a colorful college football Saturday or on an action-packed NFL Sunday are the people who have a far deeper passion for the sport than those on the field. These aren't the highly recruited athletes or the high-priced pro stars; these are the everyday people who love the sport. Football America is a 94-minute feature narrated by James Coburn that introduces some of these people and their truly amazing stories.

This video uncovers the unpublicized aspects of football, from a high school team in Juneau, Alaska, that plays on the bed of a mammoth glacier, to a tough-touch all-women's league in Key West, Florida, to a team inside prison walls in Pennsylvania. These stories alone would make this video worthwhile, but the inclusion of three additional pieces makes it exceptional. One is the story of 61-year-old Bob Blechen of Ventura, California, finishing his 46th season in football as a player on a semipro team. Another is of Dot Murphy, an assistant at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi, the only woman to coach on a college team in America. But the best is appropriately the last, a touching piece on the Gallaudet University Bisons in Washington, D.C., the only all-deaf college team in America, and their big bass drum that signals the start of their offensive plays. Football America is not just about the sport or the glorified professional athletes; this is about real people with a real passion. --Gordie Sholtys
