Kevin Kolb has done a good job spreading the ball around. He’s hit eight different receivers so far on Sunday and his leading receiver is — surprise! —
Beanie Wells, who has four receptions.
Early Doucet has been Arizona’s big playmaker, though, with three catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. - MGIt hasn’t been the best day for
Philip Rivers. His 244 passing yards through three quarters isn’t too bad, but his two interceptions put a damper on that. - MGMaybe we were too quick to bury
Steve Smith in Carolina.
Cam Newton has found him for their second TD hookup of the game. Smith has four catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the first half while Newton is 9-for-13 with 198 yards and two scoring tosses. - MGGive
Mike Shanahan some credit.
Rex Grossman has looked pretty good in the first half, throwing for 186 yards and a touchdown pass to
Anthony Armstrong. If this keeps up, Grossman could be a nice pickup for a No. 2 fantasy quarterback slot. – MG
Brandon Jacobs has been running hard for the Giants in the first half, but it’s
Ahmad Bradshaw who comes in and scores from six yards away. New York has a pair of rushing touchdowns in the game, neither one by Jacobs (
Eli Manning has the other), something to take note of for fantasy owners. - MG
Cam Newton has come out firing in his NFL debut. The Panthers rookie quarterback started his day going 5-for-9 for 145 yards and a 77-yard touchdown strike to
Steve Smith. Credit the Carolina offensive line for giving him plenty of time to throw, but his ability to move around the pocket has definitely helped. - MGIt was a roller coaster day for the Rams. It started with a big touchdown run for
Steven Jackson and ended up with
Jackson (quad) ,
Danny Amendola (elbow) and
Sam Bradford (finger) all sitting on the sidelines with injury. Jackson’s may be the least serious of the three, but with a history of injuries, fantasy owners are right to be worried. Stay tuned for more info during the week on Amendola and Bradford. - MGThe Chiefs offense was a major disappointment in Week 1, starting with
Jamaal Charles, who had a paltry 56 yards on 10 carries and lost a fumble. He wasn’t alone in his struggle —
Matt Cassel threw for just 119 yards with a touchdown and an interception while
Dwayne Bowe had just two catches for 17 yards. Kansas City’s offense will see better days, but that doesn’t console anyone who expected big numbers from those players this week. - MGIt was a big day for a couple of Buffalo Bills.
Ryan Fitzpatrick tossed four touchdown passes — two of them to tight end
Scott Chandler – while
Fred Jackson solidified himself as the team’s top running back with 120 rushing yards. It’s not hard to imagine Jackson having a solid year and while Fitzpatrick may not throw four TDs in one game again, he has sleeper potential. Chances are, today is probably the best we’ve seen out of Chandler. - MG
Kenny Britt appears ready to elevate himself to the next level of fantasy receivers. He was a big play specialist on Sunday against the Jaguars with five catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns — including an 80-yard catch and run in the third quarter. - MG
Kerry Collins is no Peyton Manning (as his 16-for-31 for 197 yards belies), but he’s experienced enough to know who his playmakers are — namely
Reggie Wayne, who made seven grabs for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Dallas Clark made four catches for 39 yards, but as expected there is limited fantasy value elsewhere in the Indy receiving corps. - MGChances are,
Arian Foster will be back in action next week for the Houston Texans. But if not, it looks like
Ben Tate may have earned himself a few more carries. The Texans’ backup carried the ball 24 times for 116 yards and a touchdown in the blowout win over the Colts. Even when Foster’s healthy, Tate looks like he’s worth a waiver wire pickup in deep leagues. - MG
Roddy White didn’t do much to bolster his reputation as one of the NFL’s top receivers after a ho-hum eight catch, 61-yard day against the Bears. His quarterback,
Matt Ryan, wasn’t particularly sharp either. Matty Ice did throw for 319 yards, but failed to throw a touchdown pass and turned it over twice (INT, fumble). - MG
Ben Roethlisberger had a miserable day against the stout-as-usual Baltimore defense. Big Ben was anything but, throwing three interceptions and losing a pair of fumbles. - MGThe Ravens ambushed the Steelers to start the season, thanks in part to
Joe Flacco’s big day. The Ravens QB — who had never done well against Pittsburgh in his career — was 17-for-29 for 224 yards and three touchdowns. It didn’t hurt that
Ray Rice carved up the Steeler defense, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown as well as catching four passes for 42 yards and another score. - MG
Michael Vick hasn’t been particularly sharp throwing the football — he’s 13-for-30 for 190 yards — but he does have a pair of touchdown passes. What Vick has lacked in passing yards, he’s made up for on the ground, rushing for 100, many of them on scrambles after his protection broke down. The Philadelphia offensive line has had its struggles and has given Vick fantasy owners reason to be worried. But for today, there’s little to complain about. -MG
Chris Johnson’s first action of the season hasn’t been what fantasy owners hoped for. After missing all of the preseason because of a holdout, CJ2K has just four carries for three yards. His backup,
Jamie Harper, hasn’t been any better, logging just six yards on his only carry of the game. - MGIt doesn’t look like the running game will be a big part of Detroit’s success today. They’ve run the ball 13 times for 34 yards while
Matthew Stafford has thrown it 20 times for 181 yards and a touchdown — 36 yards to
Calvin Johnson.
Jahvid Best has a combined 55 yards (31 rushing) but is definitely playing second fiddle to the passing game. -MGSteelers WR
Emmanuel Sanders will be a hot-name on the waiver wire thanks to his touchdown reception, but I will not pick him up because he did that
John Cena “you can’t see me” move. You have to stand for something, and that is too much. — ARThe Rams are reporting that
Steven Jackson is questionable to return due to a quadriceps injury.
Cadillac Williams now seeing the workload against the Eagles. He’ll be a popular waiver-wire pickup if Jackson’s ailment is serious. -MF
Ryan Fitzpatrick is trying to justify his selection as a deep sleeper. The Bills quarterback is 5-for-9 with 80 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Chiefs. -MGNo Foster, no problem.
Ben Tate scores on a two-yard goal-line carry. He’s got four carries for 12 yards and a touchdown. Looks like
Gary Kubiak’s running back rotation will continue all day long. – MG
Derrick Ward and
Ben Tate are sharing carries for the Texans in the absence of
Arian Foster, but it was Ward who just cashed in on a goal-line touchdown after a Colts turnover. He’s already scored 8.4 fantasy points in the contest.- MFEarly on, some of the big name backs have come to play.
Ray Rice starts with a big carry against the Steelers,
Maurice Jones-Drew breaks off a 27-yard TD run and
