Nevada set to give Chris Ault extension

Nevada is set to give coach Chris Ault a two-year contract extension following the best season in school history.

The school will recommend the extension to the Nevada State Higher Education Board of Regents for approval, athletic director Cary Groth said in a statement Friday.

The extension would run through the 2013 season.

“We set goals for the program at the end of last season, and Chris and his staff have exceeded each of those goals," Groth said. "The success of the football program this year has brought unprecedented national recognition and exposure for the University of Nevada and Northern Nevada and has brought everyone in the community together."

No. 15 Nevada (12-1) will play Boston College in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on Jan. 9 in San Francisco. The Wolf Pack won a share of their second WAC championship, and Ault also earned his second WAC Coach of the Year award.

“I am very pleased about the opportunity to continue as the head football coach of the University of Nevada,” Ault said in a statement. “We have worked hard to set a foundation of success here at Nevada, and this season is a product of that hard work.

"We look forward to building upon the success of this season and continuing to put an exciting team on the field in the future.”

Ault, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, is in his 26th overall season as Nevada’s head coach. He holds a 218-97-1 career record and ranks fifth among active FBS coaches in victories.

Patriots Ink RB Danny Woodhead to a two-year Extension

The Boston Herald reports the Patriots have signed running back Danny Woodhead to a two-year contract extension.

Signed to a one-year contract on September 18, Woodhead’s two-year extension included a $425,000 signing bonus and base salaries of $550,000 in 2011 and $700,000 in 2012.

Another $1.175 million is available via playing time incentives, the Herald adds.

A former undrafted free agent from tiny Chadron State, Woodhead has 56 carries for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns with 22 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown in his eight games with the Patriots this season.  Woodhead had 64 yards rushing and 87 receiving for the 2009 New York Jets.

Was McNabb extension right move by Redskins?

NFL.com StaffPublished: November 15th, 2010 | | Tags: Washington Redskins, Donovan McNabb, Warren Sapp, Brian Billick, Jim Mora, Charles Davis, NFL Total Access, Michael Lombardi

The “NFL Total Access” crew weighed in on the biggest question of the day Monday: Did the Redskins make the right move by signing Donovan McNabb to a five-year extension?

Insider Michael Lombardi believes the Redskins were at least partly motivated by what it would take to replace a proven, veteran quarterback.

“Obviously it’s hard to find great quarterbacks,” Lombardi said. ”And then you have to pay a guy to replace McNabb, which would be much more difficult than to keep him. I think that’s ultimately what happened.”

Check out the video for the full reaction from Lombardi, Charles Davis, Warren Sapp, Brian Billick and Jim Mora.
