Kampman ready to return for Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have given up some big conversions this season. They are the sort of plays that usually don’t happen unless the pass rush is not effective on the snap in question.

We start to find out Sunday in Pittsburgh if defensive end Aaron Kampman can still be a difference-maker for the Jags in such situations.

Tania Ganguli of the Times-Union reports than Kampman will play for the first time this season on Sunday. He is coming off his second season in a row that was ended by a torn ACL, and he’ll be on the field for 15 or 20 snaps.

He’s a leader who knows how to rush the quarterback. Perhaps he can provide a jolt in a game even the many optimistic Jacksonville fans are having trouble picturing their team winning.

Linebacker Clint Session, meanwhile, has been ruled out with an elbow issue.

Del Rio Hopeful that Kampman Will be Back This Week

Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio left open the possibility that defensive end Aaron Kampman, the Jaguars’ top pass rusher, would return to the lineup on Sunday against Cincinnati.

And Kampman is optimistic.

“I’m as hopeful as ever that it’s soon,” Kampman said. “I don’t know, but I practiced last week a little bit, getting more involved in all those football activities on the field. We’ll see how it goes.” Once it became clear Kampman would miss the beginning of the season, he didn’t have a specific timeline on which to base his return. It became a week-to-week matter. Kampman has missed the past 12 games, dating back to last season, when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a non-contact drill in practice.

DE Kampman Still Not Ready to Go; Won’t Play Sunday vs Carolina

The Jaguars will be without defensive end Aaron Kampman for at least another week.

Kampman is making progress in his return from knee surgery, but he’s still not ready to play and will miss Sunday’s game at Carolina. It will be the 17th game in which he has been sidelined during the last three seasons.

Kampman said “we’re making good ground, we’re definitely climbing” on his rehabilitation.

Kampman inactive for Jags; Ringer out for Titans

NFL.com StaffPublished: September 11th, 2011 | Tags: Aaron Kampman, Jacksonville Jaguars, Javon Ringer, Tennessee Titans, Zach Miller

Veteran DE Aaron Kampman won’t be on the field Sunday when the Jaguars open their season against the Titans.

Kampman, who had been listed as questionable, is still recovering from knee surgery he had in November. The team was cautious with his playing time during the preseason. He played about 10 snaps in last week’s finale.

Kampman was one of seven inactive players announced by the Jaguars. Also out: TE Zach Miller, who has been dealing with a knee injury.

The Titans will be without RB Javon Ringer, who had been listed as questionable with a back injury. Ringer was in line to receive carries if Tennessee takes a cautious approach with Chris Johnson, who missed much of the preseason because of a contract holdout. Rookie RB Jamie Harper could see touches in Ringer’s absence.
