Lombardi: Seahawks ‘almost’ like expansion team

NFL.com StaffPublished: September 19th, 2011 | Tags: Seattle Seahawks, Around the League, Michael Lombardi

nfl.use('nfl-video', function (Y) { var video = new Y.NFL.Video.Player({ srcNode: "#video-player-09000d5d82262caf", contentId: "09000d5d82262caf", related: "home", adSetting: "1", dartURL: "http://ad.doubleclick.net/pfadx/nfl.special/blog/home;s1=blog;s2=home;slot=inpage;nfl=ad;tile=3;sz=640x360;ord=?", playerName: "blog_large_embedded", render: true, size: "large", uniqid: "09000d5d82262caf"});});

There aren’t many positives for the Seahawks to take out of their first two losses of the season, and the numbers tell enough of the story. The Seahawks have been outscored 57-17, and were shut out by the Steelers on Sunday. They’ve been outgained 630 to 383 in total yards. They have a total of 95 rushing yards.

NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi was asked for his assessment of the team that was the surprise winner of the NFC West last season at 7-9.

“I see almost an expansion team. I really do,” Lombardi told “Around the League” on Monday. “And I hate to be so critical in only the second week of the season. But Seattle has not demonstrated any significant player on either side of the football who can make a play or stop someone from making a play. Their offensive line is very suspect. The defensive line doesn’t have a dominating player. And, when you look at the team, where are you going with Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback?”

Lombardi: Bengals won’t trade Palmer

NFL.com StaffPublished: January 24th, 2011 | Tags: Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals, Michael Lombardi, Mike Brown, NFL Total Access

Carson Palmer wants out of Cincinnati. Bengals owner Mike Brown says he won’t make a trade.

So will Brown budge? NFL Network information man Michael Lombardi doesn’t see it happening.

“I stress this strongly: Mike Brown is a man of his word,” Lombardi said. “When he says he’s not going to do something, he won’t do it.”

But let’s just suppose … if Palmer did leave, where could he end up? Lombardi suggests the 49ers, who have several members of the front office represented by agent David Dunn, who also represents Palmer.

Lombardi: McDaniels could land with Rams

NFL.com StaffPublished: January 17th, 2011 | Tags: Josh McDaniels, Michael Lombardi, Minnesota Vikings, NFL Total Access, St. Louis Rams

Josh McDaniels didn’t last as coach of the Broncos, but he’s one of the hottest names right now among candidates for several offensive coordinator openings.

It’s been reported for over a week that McDaniels has been linked to both Minnesota and St. Louis.

NFL information man Michael Lombardi told “NFL Total Access” Monday he believes McDaniels will make a decision in the next 24 hours, and it will “probably” be the Rams.

The offensive coordinator carousel was spinning fast Monday with the Browns plucking Brian Daboll and the Rob Chudzinski reportedly landing in Carolina, and it sounds as though McDaniels will be next.
