Berry sidelined early for Chiefs

UPDATE: According to the Kansas City Star, Berry is back on the sideline with his left knee heavily wrapped.

It’s been a rough start to the season for Chiefs second-year safety Eric Berry.

Berry has left Sunday’s game against the Bills on two separate occasions during the first quarter, a victim of what appears to be leg cramping. After the leaving the game for a second time midway through the quarter, Berry was brought to the trainers’ table on the sideline. He’s been replaced by veteran Jon McGraw.

Seahawks’ Hasselbeck sidelined by hip injury

For the second straight week, we have a Charlie Whitehurst sighting. This time around, though, it’s because starting QB Matt Hasselbeck left Sunday’s game during the first quarter with a hip injury.

The Seahawks announced Hasselbeck is questionable to return. The FOX game broadcast reported the injury is to Hasselbeck’s left hip.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll elected to stick with Hasselbeck as his starter against the Bucs after contemplating a switch to Whitehurst following last Sunday’s loss to the Falcons. Hasselbeck was benched during the third quarter following a series of mistakes.

This time around, Carroll didn’t have to make that decision.

The Seahawks are still alive for an NFC playoff spot. With a win by the Rams over the 49ers, the NFC West title will be decided next week when the Seahawks host the Rams.

Cowboys’ Barber sidelined with calf injury

The Cowboys are trying to close out a Thanksgiving Day comeback over the Saints, but they’ll likely have to do it without Marion Barber.

Barber is currently on the sidelines with his left calf area wrapped, and according to the FOX game broadcast is questionable to return. He appeared to be injured during two failed goal-line runs late during the fourth quarter.

He had 10 rushes for 19 yards and a touchdown, plus two receptions for eight yards, before leaving.

With this game nearing a conclusion, it doesn’t appear we’ll see Barber again. But a serious injury could impact the Cowboys’ backfield rotation between Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

Collie sidelined for Colts

It looks like Colts WR Austin Collie‘s day in Foxborough is done.

Collie, who suffered a concussion two weeks ago against the Eagles, had his helmet taken away from him on the sideline Sunday, and it doesn’t look like he’ll return against the Patriots. No official word from the Colts on an injury for Collie, but he could have suffered another concussion or head injury.

Losing Collie — who had five receptions for 60 yards in less than one half of play — is tough for the Colts, who continue to be thin at receiver. Behind Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon, the Colts likely will go with rookie Blair White as their No. 3 receiver.

Trufant, Balmer sidelined for Seahawks

The Seahawks are trying to slow down the Saints during the first half in New Orleans without two defensive starters. So far, it isn’t going well. The Saints led 21-6.

Starting CB Marcus Trufant left the game with a head injury and is questionable to return. He has been replaced by Walter Thurmond.

Another starter, DE Kentwan Balmer, left the game during the first quarter due to a cut on his face. He left the field with trainers under his own power, holding a towel to the left side of his head. Raheem Brock has replaced Balmer, who is expected to return.

Chiefs’ Albert sidelined hip injury

The Chiefs are finishing out a blowout win over the Cardinals, but their doing it without starting LT Brandon Albert.

The team announced during the second half Albert had suffered a hip injury and was questionable to return. Albert is an integral piece for the NFL’s top rushing team, and would be a huge loss if he were to miss any significant amount of time for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs are putting up another dominant rushing day so far against the Cardinals, posting 159 yards on the ground.

Albert was replaced by Barry Richardson to close out the game.

Ward sidelined for Steelers

Steelers WR Hines Ward had to be helped off the field at Heinz Field on Sunday night after a hit to his helmet left him wobbly and woozy.

On the final play of the first quarter, Ward was hit by Patrick Chung and then James Sanders following a 5-yard reception. As he was brought down by Chung, Ward was hit helmet-to-helmet by Sanders. No penalty flag was thrown on the play, and Sanders didn’t appear to be leading with his helmet as he struck Ward, who was in the process of going down to the turf.

Ward had to be assisted off the field by team medical personnel, and was clearly unable to walk on his own. He was immediately administered a variety of tests as he sat on the bench.

According to the NBC game broadcast, the Steelers are calling it a neck injury and listing him as questionable to return. Had Ward suffered a concussion, he would be ineligible to return to the game. He is up and talking on the sidelines, so we might see Ward again tonight.

Raiders’ McClain sidelined by hip injury

Only one injury to report out of Oakland today, but it’s a significant one for the Raiders: Rookie MLB Rolando McClain is questionable to return due to a hip injury.

McClain was injured during the first half but wasn’t on the field to start the second half. Ricky Brown has taken his place in the middle of the defense.

The Chiefs entered the game as the NFL’s top rushing team, and while Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles have been held in-check, that won’t get any easier without McClain.
