NFC Editor Russ Loede’s Week Three NFL Picks

Last week ATS: 3-11-2

Season ATS: 11-18-3

Week two Lock: 1-0 (New England)

Week two Upset: 0-1 (Miami)

Season Locks: 1-1

Season Upsets: 1-1

SUNDAY

San Francisco (+2.5) at Cincinnati - Benson’s last Sunday of football freedom until Halloween time will not be enough to offset an angry 49ers squad coming off of a heartbreaking loss in overtime to Dallas.  San Francisco 19 Cincinnati 17

New England (-7) at Buffalo – I think the world of Tom Brady.  Belichick will make sure the Bills don’t put up 38+ points for the third consecutive week.  Patriots relish shootouts; and that’s the only way Buffalo can play and win right now.  New England 48 Buffalo 21

Houston at (LOCK) New Orleans (-4) – Last week’s showing by the Saints in the Superdome was the best start to finish balanced performance of the young ’11 NFL campaign.  The Texans can’t beat a Super Bowl contender on the road without a healthy Foster.  New Orleans 35 Houston 24

(Upset) New York Giants (+8) at Philadelphia – A less explosive Vick, tough loss turnaround, and Giant pass rush will eviscerate Eagles.  Furthermore, I like Bradshaw-Jacobs to run rampant against a roughshod Philly run D.  New York Giants 23 Philadelphia 20

Miami (+2.5) at Cleveland – Two teams that can’t win at home.  When was the last time the Browns were above .500 during the regular season?  Dolphins rookie running back Daniel Thomas is the key to Miami’s first win of the season.  Miami 17 Cleveland 16

Denver (+7) at Tennessee – Titans are not a touchdown and an extra point better than the Broncos.  Although the contest is being played in Nashville, I can’t imagine a well-balanced Broncos club being handled that easily.  Tennessee 20 Denver 17

Detroit at Minnesota (+3) – I don’t feel good about this selection.  Picking a team with no aerial attack against one of the top passing units in the league.  On top of that, Jahvid Best is looking strong in the ground game.  “All Day” will have one of “those days” in the Metrodome that we will remember for a long time.  It’s the only way the Vikings win this divisional duel.  Minnesota 28 Detroit 24

Jacksonville at Carolina (-3.5) – Cam Newton resembles Tom Brady, whereas, Blaine Gabbert exhibits David Klinger meets Heath Shuler.  Sooner rather than later (like this Sunday), DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will pound the rock en route to success.  Carolina 30 Jacksonville 17

Kansas City (+14.5) at San Diego – As you can tell, I’m a sucker for the points.  Apparently, I envision a backdoor cover, however, I clearly don’t foresee a Chiefs miracle.  Hoping the extra half-point makes the difference.  San Diego 27 Kansas City 13

New York Jets (-3) at Oakland – Jets win close games, while the Raiders lose close games.  On the other hand, I could see the Jets crushing Campbell, giving us the privilege of a Kyle Boller-sighting.  Craziest game to pick points-wise because it could be an absolute annihilation or an overtime thriller.  Let me choose the latter (push), but not for it being the Raiders’ home opener.  Can’t stand that dump of a stadium!  New York Jets 24 Oakland 21 (OT)

Baltimore (-4) at St. Louis – I would not want to be Sam Bradford going up against an upset Raven defense after last week’s thrashing in Tennessee.  Ray Rice goes exceeds the century mark in both rushing and receiving.  Baltimore 26 St. Louis 20

Arizona (-3.5) at Seattle – Nothing tops the home of the 12th Man, where the 12th Man truly makes a difference, that is, unless your starting signal caller’s first name is Tarvaris.  Give me the more talented team, with a more talented quarterback.  Arizona 27 Seattle 17

Green Bay (-4) at Chicago – Check out the Packers at Bears preview on Bears Gab.  Green Bay 26 Chicago 21

SUNDAY NIGHT

Pittsburgh (-10.5) at Indianapolis – We want Painter!  A guy named Curtis or Kerry under center doesn’t matter against a super-stifling 11-man wrecking crew.  Thinking ahead to next Sunday night’s showdown: Jets at Ravens.  Pittsburgh 26 Indianapolis 6

MONDAY NIGHT

Washington (+6.5) at Dallas – I love me an NFC East clash!  This battle has the chance to become one of the best games of this season.  Early divisional matchup that will live up to all the hype.  Looking forward to the renewing of the rivalry!  Dallas 33 Washington 30 (OT)

Week Three NFL Picks at the lunch table

Here we go headed into battle Eagle fans. The Giants return to town still licking their wounds and recovering from a massive blow to their egos after last years debacle in The New Meadowlands. I have a feeling that D. Jackson and M.Vick have a huge target on them. Especially now since Vick went out with a concussion last week against the Falcons. Hopefully, his cobwebs are all cleared out. He gets the opportunity this week to face a depleted Giant secondary. The key to winning this game on offense will solely be on the protection Vick gets from his offensive linemen. If he gets the time, look for him to pick apart the Giants. On the other side of the ball defensive coordinator Juan Castillo made some changes at the linebacker position. He has shuffled around his young crew. Look for them to be more aggressive against the run this week. However, Brandon Jacobs is a 270-pound force to be reckoned with coming out of the backfield for the Giants. I have the Birds winning by 10 at home this week, 27-17.

On to the lunch table smack talk. It’s been a quiet few weeks for my friends. There hasn’t been a whole lot of gloating. All of us who use to walk around with our chests sticking out far have been deflated. Like I said in one of my first articles the teams represented at our lunch table are as follows:

Colts 0-2, Panthers 0-2, Vikes 0-2, Saints 1-1, Bungles 1-1, Lions 2-0, and I forgot we had a Broncos fan, 1-1. I actually forgot the Broncos were an NFL team . All that crying coming out of Denver, I just figured they were a Pop Warner team that had all the parents yelling for their kid, Timmy Tebow, to play. Then of course you have me, an Eagles fan. I am not doing that much smack talking this year. Every time Vick takes off out of the pocket I think back to 1991 when Bryce Paup of the Packers ended our season on a hit to our star quarterback Randall Cunningham. So with every exciting Vick play I keep my fingers crossed and my breath held.

Here are THIS Guys’ picks for week 3:

Panthers with their first win with C. Newton: 24-21

49ers over Bungles 28-21

Vikes can’t open 0-3: Vikes over Lions 28-24

Titans clobber the broken Broncos. 27-10

Saints fall to Texans revamped defense: Texans 24-20

Sorry Colt fans. Big Ben explodes over the Colts 31-14

Eagles over G-men 27-17

Pats hold off high powered Bills 38-31

Brownies stomp on the Dolphins 24-14.

RAIDERS (Berman voice) over the J-E-T-S 27-24

Ravens over the Rams 24-17

Bears beat the Pack 34-28

Chiefs fall to the Chargers 34-10

Kolb throws for 300 + yards and beats the Seahawks 34-24

Bucs gut the Dirty Birds 27-17

Finally, MNF I have the Skins going 3-0. They beat the Cowgirls 24-16

Playbook Picks: Steelers are unanimous choice

NFL.com StaffPublished: January 19th, 2011 | Tags: NFL Playbook picks, Brian Baldinger, Brian Billick, Conference Championships, Joe Theismann, NFL Playbook

It’s prediction time again for “Playbook” analysts Brian Baldinger, Joe Theismann and Brian Billick.

Although the Jets have won playoff road games against Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in consecutive weeks, the crew doesn’t see it happening a third time against Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers in Pittsburgh. All three are taking the Steelers at home.

The crew is split on the Bears/Packers, who split their two meetings this season. Baldinger, who is alone on taking the home Bears, sees how they can have success against the explosive Packers.

“The Bears are set up to contain Aaron Rodgers,” Baldinger said. “They really don’t have to do a lot. They win with their front four. Speed at linebacker to take care of underneath (coverage) and chase Rodgers when he does break the pocket. The safeties generally play deep to take away the deep throws. The cornerbacks really redirect and re-route the receivers. That’s what they did in the first game, they limited the big plays and tackled very well. Really, I give the Packers credit because they stayed pretty patient (in the second) game even though they turned it over a couple of times. The defense kept it close and they won it in the fourth quarter.

“That’s the challenge, but I believe the Bears think that their defense is in place to be able to slow this offense down.”

Here are the picks for the conference championship games:

Packers at Bears
Baldinger: Bears
Theismann: Packers
Billick: Packers

Jets at Steelers
Baldinger: Steelers
Theismann: Steelers
Billick: Steelers

Playbook picks: Jags to win first AFC South title?

NFL.com StaffPublished: December 15th, 2010 | Tags: Brian Baldinger, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Michael Lombardi, Mike Mayock, Playbook picks, Solomon Wilcots, Sterling Sharpe

The symbolic AFC South title has resided at Indianapolis so often, that there might as well be a giant horseshoe in the middle of it. The Colts have won six of the eight titles since the division was created in 2002.

Well, there will be another top cat this year, according to two of three of our “Playbook” analysts.

Solomon Wilcots and Brian Baldinger both expect the Jaguars to go into Lucas Oil Field and emerge wearing the AFC South crown. Michael Lombardi, however, is on his own as not yet ready to give up on Indy.

Without further ado, take a look at all of their Week 15 picks:

Keith Fitzhugh picks family over shot with Jets

Frank TadychPublished: December 8th, 2010 | Tags: Keith Fitzhugh, New York Jets

It’s not often you hear of a player who passes up another shot at the NFL.

Chances are also pretty good you haven’t heard of Keith Fitzhugh, but he did just that, and for a pretty good reason.

Fitzhugh went undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2009 and spent most of the season with the Jets before being signed off the practice squad by the Ravens just before the playoffs. But he was back with the Jets during training camp this summer, and it was Fitzhugh who got a call from them on Tuesday as the team searched for a player who was familiar with their defense and could provide depth in the secondary after injuries to Jim Leonhard and James Ihedigbo.

He turned them down.

“I told them I’m very thankful for the opportunity,” Fitzhugh told Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. “But right now, being that it would be for just a couple weeks, I feel that I’d rather stay with a secure company and job, somewhere I know I could have long-term employment.”

Fitzhugh is currently a train conductor, and steady employment is important to him because he helps support his parents. It’s family first for Fitzhugh.

It’s a pretty unique story, make sure to give it a read.

Sports Gab Network Senior Editor Matt Loede’s NFL Picks for Week Fourteen

Last Week: 13-3
Season: 114-75

Thursday:

Indianapolis at Tennessee – Peyton Manning is in one of those funks. The Colts have no run game, are banged up all over the place, and can’t find a rhythm on either side of the ball. The Titans are on their last leg, losing at home last week scoring 6 points and two weeks ago getting shut out. Two desperate teams ready to start the week out. Here’s thinking the Colts have one more bullet left in their gun. Indianapolis 23 Tennessee 10

Sunday:

Tampa Bay at Washington – Last week the Bucs showed they could hang with one of the best in the league with the Falcons, but in the end, they just couldn’t finish. This week they take on a distracted Redskins team that is again filled with off the field issues. Albert Haynesworth won’t play, not that it matters, but the Redskins are falling on hard times, and while Donovan McNabb and the offense is fading fast, the defense will probably keep them in it for about a half till the Bucs impose their will. Tampa Bay 27 Washington 14

Cleveland at Buffalo - Ugh. The Bills were showing some signs of life till last week when they were crushed in Minnesota. The Browns are 5-7, but played a snoozer in Miami, winning 13-10. The Browns are playing well on both sides of the ball, and finally it looks like Eric Mangini is on the verge of making sure he sticks around for 2011. The Browns can’t afford a slip up, and will find a way to win again – ugly. Cleveland 17 Buffalo 14

New York Giants at Minnesota – Don’t believe the hype, Brett Favre will play. Not that it matters, as the Vikings seemed to have more life with Tarvaris Jackson last week in their win over the Bills. They just seemed to have a better tempo, while Favre’s age seems to show. The Giants will rush Favre all day, and look for the pass rush to do enough to get a win and stay tied for first with the Eagles. New York Giants 21 Minnesota 13

Green Bay at Detroit - Drew Stanton kept the Lions in the game last week vs the Bears, and he’ll get a shot this week against another tough NFC North team, the Pack. Charles Woodson likely won’t play, meaning that Stanton should have some success throwing. As for Aaron Rodgers, he will pick on the Lions pass defense all day, meaning it should be somewhat of a shootout in Motown, but Rodgers is too good to lose this one. Green Bay 34 Detroit 24

Oakland at Jacksonville
-Can the Jags actually pull off the upset of rising from the dead to win the AFC South? It seems like it, as they are playing the best ball of the division. Now it’s the Raiders in town, a team that last week came out of nowhere to beat the Chargers on the road. Look for Oakland to give David Garrard and the Jags all they can handle, but in the end, Maurice Jones-Drew will do enough against the Raiders run D to get it done again for Jacksonville. Jacksonville 20 Oakland 17

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh – What a difference a year makes. The Bengals were 6-0 in the division last year, but this year are in a serious funk, losing their last 9 after starting out 2-1. They play a beat up Steelers team coming off a huge 13-10 win in Baltimore that looks like it will wrap up the division. The Steelers will be without TE Heath Miller and OL Flozell Adams, but it shouldn’t stop the black and gold from running on the Bengals, and for Ben Roethlisberger to do enough to get the Steelers to 10-3. Pittsburgh 31 Cincinnati 14

Atlanta at Carolina - There’s not much these days that seem to be stopping the Falcons, as they are playing very good football, as shown last week with the comeback win over the Bucs. This week should be a cakewalk over a Panthers team that started strong vs the Hawks, but like they have done a couple times this awful year, they made way too many mistakes, and paid for it. Look for the Falcons to have a lot of smiles by the time the fourth quarter starts. Atlanta 31 Carolina 10

Seattle at San Francisco – The 49'ers still actually have a shot in the division, but they have to win here over the Hawks, or they are cooked. They are going back to Alex Smith, as Troy Smith didn’t do enough to keep the starting job. Seattle is 6-6, and is tied with the Rams for first in the very average NFC West. Pete Carroll has shown signs of getting his team to play well at home, but they are 2-4 on the road, and the Niners have one more shot to right the ship. With Alex Smith back in, they find a way late to win it. San Francisco 21 Seattle 17

St.Louis at New Orleans – St.Louis is riding high after a big win in Arizona last week, but won’t find it so easy this week vs Drew Brees and the Saints. New Orleans hung in and eventually pulled out a tough win in Cincy last week, winning with less than a minute left. Look for the Saints to have way too much firepower for the Rams, who if they are going to win need to keep this game in the last teens or early 20’s. Won’t happen. New Orleans 34 St.Louis 20

New England at Chicago – A great game between two teams that have visions of a Super Bowl XX rematch in early February. The Pats put the Jets in a stranglehold Monday night, crushing them 45-3. As for the Bears, they had a tough time, but overcame a tough Lions team to pull out a win. The Pats always seem to get up for tough games on the road, more so late in the year. Hard to see them having a letdown, even after a Monday night game in which they played near perfect. New England 28 Chicago 27

Denver at Arizona – About the only storyline in this stinker is if the Broncos will come out for their new coach after Josh McDaniels was canned on Monday. The Cards are in a funk after another home loss last week, and while the Broncos are 3-9, here’s thinking they come out and play a little inspired against a team that has dropped seven in a row. Denver 20 Arizona 13

Miami at New York Jets
- Who could have seen that one coming for the Jets Monday night vs the Pats? They were beaten as badly as any team has been beaten this year, and now they have to rally and come out vs a Dolphins team that plays better on the road than at home. Last week they lost to the Browns at home, and now they have to travel to the hornets nest that is the new Meadowlands. The Jets have to get back on track, and can’t afford to let last week linger. New York Jets 23 Miami 21

Kansas City at San Diego – Matt Cassel not playing in this one changes the dynamics for the Chiefs, who have a two game lead with four games left in the division. The Chargers are not a happy crew after losing to the Raiders, and they will come out and take it out on Brodie Croyle and the Chiefs this week, getting that two game lead down to one with three weeks left. San Diego 27 Kansas City 7

Philadelphia at Dallas – Can the Cowboys stay hot another week? They are 3-1 under Jason Garrett, and should have been 4-0 if it were not a Roy Williams fumble. Now they play the Eagles, a team that seems to have found its future with Mike Vick running the show at QB. The Eagles need to win to stay tied for first with the Giants, but playing the Cowboys, who have visions of keeping Garrett around, will again find a way to pull it out late. Dallas 30 Philadelphia 27

Monday Night:

Baltimore at Houston – Last week the Ravens had the Steelers on the ropes, but couldn’t finish, and now find themselves needing to keep winning to get a wild card spot. They play a Texans team that has been up and down all season, and come in 5-7, 3-3 at home. The Texans still have weapons on offense, but the Ravens are not a happy crew after losing to the Steelers at home. Baltimore will find a way to win it, as their defense will make enough plays to stop Matt Schaub and company. Baltimore 24 Houston 17

Playbook picks: Pats just too good for Bears

NFL.com StaffPublished: December 8th, 2010 | Tags: Brian Billick, Mike Mayock, Playbook picks, Solomon Wilcots, Sterling Sharpe

It’s an annual rite of passage for NFL prognosticators. A surprise team exceeds expectations and forces the experts to rethink their original forecasts.

Two such teams this year are the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams. Each faces an elite opponent in Week 14, and at least for this week, consider the “Playbook” analysts nonbelievers.

Solomon Wilcots, Mike Mayock and Brian Billick all picked the Patriots to win at Chicago, and likewise went with the Saints to beat the visiting Rams.

For their part, Wilcots and Mayock aren’t dismissing all upstarts: They predict the Chiefs will knock off the Chargers. Billick, however, is sticking with the proven club in San Diego.

Without further ado, take a look at all of their Week 14 picks:

Playbook picks: Bucs ready to topple Falcons?

NFL.com StaffPublished: December 1st, 2010 | Tags: Week 13 Playbook picks, Brian Baldinger, Michael Lombardi, Mike Mayock, Playbook, Solomon Wilcots, Sterling Sharpe

When a handful of NFL Network experts pick winners for 16 games, there are bound to be some disagreements.

This week, however, there are surprisingly few. “Playbook” analysts Solomon Wilcots, Michael Lombardi and Brian Baldinger are on the same page for 12 of their 15 selections, and Sterling Sharpe, Mike Mayock and Wilcots are unanimous with their Thursday night prediction.

Perhaps the most interesting prognostication is that Wilcots and Lombardi like the Buccaneers to snap the Falcons’ five-game winning streak and hand the NFC leaders a costly loss. Baldinger is siding with Atlanta.

Without further ado, take a look at all of their Week 13 picks:

Sports Gab Network Senior Editor Matt Loede’s NFL Picks for Week Thirteen

Last Week: 8-8
Season: 101-72

Cleveland at Miami – The Dolphins looked good last week in Oakland, and while the Browns won (barely) against the 1-9 Panthers, the Dolphins are the better team, and will get WR Brandon Marshall back this week, and he will have a big game against the Browns secondary and suspect D that can’t get to the QB. Miami 24 Cleveland 17

San Francisco at Green Bay – The Pack rallied but fell short in the ATL a week ago, but return home to take on a 49ers team that won Monday night, but are now without Frank Gore the rest of the way. Look for Aaron Rodgers to have a good day vs the Niners, and the Pack D will force a few mistakes from Troy Smith and the 49ers offense. Green Bay 27 San Francisco 17

Denver at Kansas City – The Chiefs are trying to hold off the pesky Chargers in the AFC West, and need to make sure they don’t have a hiccup here. They were crushed the last time they played the Broncos, and this time they will make sure to learn from their mistakes. This will play out like an old AFL game, but the Chiefs in the end will have enough offense to get it done at Arrowhead. Kansas City 37 Denver 31

Buffalo at Minnesota – Last week Steve Johnson cost the Bills a shot at the upset at home over the Steelers, and now they have to take that hard luck loss and head to Minnesota to play Brett and the Vikings. Minnesota kept their very slim playoff hopes alive with a win in DC, and while the Bills will play the Vikings hard, Minnesota has a few more playmakers that will pull this one out. Minnesota 23 Buffalo 20

Washington at New York Giants – The Giants had issues early with the Jags last week, but found themselves late and pulled out a needed win to keep pace in the East. As for the Skins, they are starting to show wear and tear, and at 5-6 need a win here to keep their playoff hopes alive. Won’t happen, as Eli Manning and the Giants have too much offense for a Skins team that is fading fast. New York Giants 24 Washington 14

Jacksonville at Tennessee – Kerry Collins looks to get the start at QB for the Titans, and he can’t be as bad as rookie Rusty Smith was a week ago, as the Titans laid a big old goose egg on the scoreboard in Houston. The Jags were slammed the last time these two played, and the Titans matchup well with the Jags. Look for another big day for Chris Johnson, and the Titans will roll out a big home win. Tennessee 26 Jacksonville 13

Chicago at Detroit – The Bears look like the best team in the NFC right now, and as long as Jay Cutler doesn’t give up the ball with picks, this team should have enough to get past Drew Stanton and a Lions team that is starting to wear down with too many injuries. Detroit’s two wins this year are at home, but vs the Bears they won’t have much success unless they create at least 3-4 turnovers. Chicago 24 Detroit 10

New Orleans at Cincinnati - Cincy appears to have given up, as they were no match for the Jets on Thanksgiving despite having plenty of chances to take control of the game in the first half. This team needs to re-tool this offseason, and against the Saints they will hang in for a half, but the Saints have way too much offense to fall even on the road in a cold weather city. New Orleans 31 Cincinnati 20

Oakland at San Diego – The Chargers are playing as well as any team in the NFL, and against the Raiders at home they will have no issues getting to Jason Campbell and getting the ball down the field to their wide outs as they roll for another win to keep the heat on the Chiefs in the AFC West. San Diego 29 Oakland 14

Atlanta at Tampa Bay – It was another last second win for the Falcons last week vs the Pack, but they all count, and this week they head to Tampa to look to sweep the Bucs. Tampa Bay needs to get to Matt Ryan, and also need to avoid mistakes to make this thing interesting. They can’t allow Matt Ryan to make plays downfield to Roddy White, but that’s easier said than done. Look for White and Michael Turner to be the difference, as the Falcons fly to 10-2. Atlanta 27 Tampa Bay 23

Dallas at Indianapolis – Last week the Chargers took advantage of Peyton Manning mistakes as the Colts lost a rare home game. This week the Cowboys come in after not playing for a full 10 days, and still smarting after they should have beaten the Saints at home. Dallas is a different team under Jason Garrett, and they have been playing better football. The Colts are in crisis mode, and can’t afford another letdown. Look for Dallas to keep playing better football. Dallas 27 Indianapolis 26

St.Louis at Arizona – Here’s hoping that Derek Anderson doesn’t get caught smiling or laughing, as last week they were awful on Monday night vs the 49ers. Arizona at 3-8 is a team that right now can’t seem to get out of its own way, while the Rams are average at best, but are making strides and will build off a big win in Denver last week. St.Louis 34 Arizona 24

Carolina at Seattle – Can you imagine if the Seahawks, at 7-9, got into the playoffs as the NFC West champs? Don’t laugh, it very well could happen, and a win over a bad Panthers team at home can make it a lot more likely. Look for Seattle, who were beaten at home by the Chiefs last week, to rebound vs a Panthers team that hung in but were wide on what would have been a game winning field goal shot in Cleveland a week ago. Seattle 28 Carolina 14

Pittsburgh at Baltimore – The first of two very good prime time games sees the best two AFC North teams do battle in Baltimore. Ben Roethlisberger’s foot is a big concern, but he says he will be fine, and he’s won his last 5 vs the Ravens, a key. The Steelers should be able to hold the Ravens run game in check, and then try and force some Joe Flacco mistakes. It will be a field goal game, since it always is, and this time the Steelers will get enough and win it late. Pittsburgh 23 Baltimore 20

Monday Night:

New York Jets at New England – Two of the AFC’s best wrap up the week, as the Pats look for revenge vs a Jets team that beat them early in the season. This time the Pats will look to confuse Mark Sanchez, hold the Jets run game, which has had some issues lately, in check, and make sure they are consistent on offense as they have been. They may start a little slow, but look for Brady and his boys to score enough to outduel the Jets and take control of the AFC East. New England 19 New York Jets 13

Playbook picks: Colts or Bolts? Tough call

NFL.com StaffPublished: November 24th, 2010 | Tags: Brian Baldinger, Michael Lombardi, Mike Mayock, Playbook picks, Sterling Sharpe

The November Nine. No, it’s not just the name given to the final table at the World Series of Poker. It also represents a feat two NFL teams are trying to accomplish Sunday night.

The Chargers are going for their ninth consecutive November victory, while the Colts are aiming for their ninth consecutive November home win. Which one of those two clubs will achieve their goal?

Sterling Sharpe, Michael Lombardi, Mike Mayock and Brian Baldinger made picks this week. While Lombardi and Mayock both like the Colts to get the job done, Baldinger sides with the Chargers.

Baldinger is also an island with his picks in two other key games. He predicts the Packers and Jaguars will come out on top this week, but Lombardi and Mayock go with the Falcons and Giants.

Without further ado, take a look at all of their Week 12 picks:

Sports Gab Network Columnist Russ Loede’s Week Twelve NFL Picks

Can Rodgers Hand Ryan His Second Career Loss In The Georgia Dome?

Week 11 Results ATS: 8-8

Season Record ATS: 73-81-5

Confidence Points: 83 out of 136

Week 12 Power Rankings

THANKSGIVING DAY

4-star game, 14 on the confidence meter: New England Patriots (-6.5) @ Detroit Lions – I hope the Lions don’t run the ball at all.  Tom Brady has some help on the ground with the elusive 1-2 punch of Green-Ellis and Woodhead.  Big fan of Brady’s receivers.  Patriots secondary is full of playmakers.  Calvin Johnson provides a tough challenge, Hill is no slouch.  New England Patriots 37 Detroit Lions 24

5-star game, 16 on the confidence meter, “Lock of the Week”: New Orleans Saints (-3.5) @ Dallas Cowboys – Drew Brees is going for 400+ and 5 TD’s.  Chris Ivory has been remarkable, pleasant surprise.  Watch the New Orleans defense rattle Kitna.  Honeymoon is over Jason Garrett.  New Orleans Saints 44 Dallas Cowboys 27

THANKSGIVING NIGHT

3-star game, 9 on the confidence meter: Cincinnati Bengals (+9) @ New York Jets – Recent history prevails: Jets don’t play well at home, wins always come down to the wire, and they play down to their competition.  Cincinnati Bengals 21 New York Jets 28

EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON

3-star game, 3 on the confidence meter: Minnesota Vikings (+1.5) @ Washington Redskins – Vikings will play well for their new coach, feature Adrian more.  Can’t trust Dononvan-Shanahan.  Minnesota Vikings 23 Washington Redskins 22

4-star game, 4 on the confidence meter: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Buffalo Bills (+6.5) – Fitzpatrick to Johnson rivals Kelly to Reed.  Pittsburgh will look past this game to Sunday night’s divisional showdown next week in Baltimore.  When’s the last time the Bills played a bad game?  Pittsburgh Steelers 26 Buffalo Bills 20

3-star game, 12 on the confidence meter, “Upset of the Week”: Tennessee Titans (+6.5) @ Houston Texans – Count out the Titans, I dare you.  Chris Johnson is going off, book it.  I have more faith in Tennessee than I do Houston.  Tennessee Titans 19 Houston Texans 17

4-star game, 2 on the confidence meter: Jacksonville Jaguars (+7) @ New York Giants – Who’s Eli going to throw it to?  Jaguars Achilles’ heel is their pass defense, not their run defense.  The New Meadowlands curse continues.  Jacksonville Jaguars 16 New York Giants 20

0-star game, 5 on the confidence meter: Carolina Panthers (+10) @ Cleveland Browns – Mike Goodson is a player, keep your eye on him.  Am I crazy to think the Panthers have a better future than the Browns?  I knew Colt McCoy was due for an injury.  Carolina Panthers 13 Cleveland Browns 12

5-star game, 1 on the confidence meter: Green Bay Packers (+2) @ Atlanta Falcons – About as even as a match-up as it gets.  As flawless as Ryan is at home (hasn’t lost since his rookie year in Week 11 of ‘08, 24-20 against Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, and the Denver Broncos), I rather roll with Rodgers.  MVP QB’s, potential Playoff preview, and both teams still having something to prove.  I’m thankful for the Sunday Ticket.  Green Bay Packers 31 Atlanta Falcons 27

LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON

2-star game, 8 on the confidence meter: Miami Dolphins @ Oakland Raiders (-3) – Start Gradkowski, not Campbell.  I want McFadden getting his hands on the rock at least 30 times.  Should either team attempt a forward pass?  Miami Dolphins 10 Oakland Raiders 16

4-star game, 13 on the confidence meter: Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5) @ Seattle Seahawks – Chiefs are the better team and need this win to stay atop the AFC West; such, they will play with tremendous urgency.  Division on the line, Chiefs have to get a signature road victory.  Offensively, I envision Haley’s crew displaying an encore performance.  Kansas City Chiefs 24 Seattle Seahawks 14

1-star game, 6 on the confidence meter: St. Louis Rams @ Denver Broncos (-4) – Can’t go against Broncos at home when the Rams haven’t won away from home.  Because of that, very easy game to pick.  St. Louis Rams 20 Denver Broncos 30

5-star game, 7 on the confidence meter: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Baltimore Ravens (-7.5) – Big believer in the Bucs, however, the Ravens are due for another big-game performance, much like the one they put together against Miami in Week 9.  Josh Freeman and Joe Flacco are so similar from numbers and stature, to how/when they were drafted -it’s striking.  Both are vastly under-hyped as winners, franchise QB’s.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers 22 Baltimore Ravens 32

5-star game, 15 on the confidence meter, “Game of the Week”: Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears (+3.5) – I don’t see the Eagles playing out of their minds for the fourth consecutive week.  Should have lost to the Giants if not for that “lucky” LeSean McCoy, 4th & 1 touchdown run.  Vick will not make many big plays against a bend but don’t break Bears unit and McCoy will not be able to run on the 2nd best rush defense.  On 3rd down, Bears are money on both sides of the ball.  Three more reasons why the Bears will win: Jay Cutler finally has some time, run game is in operation, and it’s in Soldier Field.  Playing surface will benefit Chicago, not Philly.  Philadelphia Eagles 17 Chicago Bears 27

SUNDAY NIGHT

5-star game, 10 on the confidence meter: San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts (-3) – Tough game to pick.  Hard to go against Peyton in prime-time.  Difference will be Indy’s control of the clock due to their successful 3rd down conversion rate.  Feels like one of those games where Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis both make their presence felt.   Colts better wrap-up Mike Tolbert.  Vincent Jackson will make an immediate impact in his debut.  Have a hunch this is going to be a classic, possibly OT. San Diego Chargers 31 Indianapolis Colts 35

MONDAY NIGHT

1-star game, 11 on the confidence meter: San Francisco 49ers (-1) @ Arizona Cardinals – Give me the team with more playmakers.  San Francisco 49ers 21 Arizona Cardinals 10

Sports Gab Network Senior Editor Matt Loede’s NFL Picks for Week Eleven

Last Week: 9-4
Season: 82-60

Oakland at Pittsburgh - The Raiders look like legit AFC West contenders after two wins and a bye, while many think the Steelers are headed for another collapse like last season. The injured Steelers will have to find a way to stop the Raiders attack, and there offense also needs to get something going. Why do I see a repeat of the game at Heinz from last season? Oakland 27 Pittsburgh 21

Cleveland at Jacksonville - After three emotional weeks in which they went 2-1 against three of the leagues best, the Browns travel to play the 5-4 Jags. Last week the Jags won on a last play Hail Mary, but this week they won’t need it, taking advantage of a beat up Browns team. Jacksonville 21 Cleveland 18

Washington at Tennessee – Albert Haynesworth goes back to Tennessee this weekend, and if the Skins are lucky, they can leave him there. Washington was awful last week, going down 35-0 8 seconds into the second quarter. The Titans will rebound vs a Skins team that is reeling after getting crushed on Monday night by the Eagles. Tennessee 27 Washington 16

Houston at New York Jets - The Jets were lucky to walk out of Cleveland without a tie last week, but that’s what good teams do. Now they take on a Texans team that can’t get out of their own way, and saw their starting QB sit a night in the hospital this week. The Jets D should lower the boom on Matt Schaub and the Texans. New York Jets 17 Houston 6

Baltimore at Carolina - Brian St.Pierre vs the Ravens D? I think very little needs to be said here, as if this game is even close in the fourth quarter, the Ravens should take a long look in the mirror. Baltimore 31 Carolina 0

Green Bay at Minnesota – The last gasp for the Vikings, who will be trying to ride Brett Favre’s arm one more time against his former team. Won’t matter. The Packers, despite being banged up, are the better team, and need to keep winning to stay with the Bears in the NFC North. Look for the Pack to pick on the Vikings secondary and walk out of the Twin Cities with a sweep over their rivals. Green Bay 35 Minnesota 24

Arizona at Kansas City – The Cards were beaten up by the Seahawks at home last week, and now play a Chiefs team coming off the bye after they were beat in OT the week before by Oakland. KC is a team that seems to still be growing, and they should be able to make it a long day for Derek Anderson and the Cards. Kansas City 26 Arizona 14

Detroit at Dallas - The Cowboys were a new team last week with Jason Garrett running the show, and against a Lions team that couldn’t even beat Buffalo on the road last week, the Cowboys will step up for their new coach at home and win their second in a row. Dallas 27 Detroit 20

Buffalo at Cincinnati – Two bad teams do battle here in Cincy, where the Bengals couldn’t sell out for the first time in 57 games. Buffalo has been competitive for the last few weeks, and there’s no doubt with the Bengals playing like team ready for new coach and high draft pick, they will hang here till the end. Cincinnati 14 Buffalo 13

Seattle at New Orleans - The Hawks won on the road last week, but that was in Arizona, not the Superdome vs a good Saints team that had the bye last week and will be well prepared for the Hawks here. Matt Hasselebeck should be back, but Drew Brees and the Saints offense will be more than enough to overcome Seattle and send them to 5-5. New Orleans 34 Seattle 21

Tampa Bay at San Francisco – Suddenly the Niners are looking like a team that has found themselves, and why not – they have the talent to get the job done here at home, and they should. Tampa Bay crushed the Panthers, but it’ll be a long road trip vs a Niners team that is feeling good about how they have played. The Niners outphysical the Bucs for their fourth win. San Francisco 28 Tampa Bay 13

Atlanta at St.Louis – The Falcons appear in quite a few areas to be the best team in the NFC, and on the road they have to make sure not to have a slip up against a gritty Rams team. They should have a good showing on offense vs the Rams, who need to have a good day from Steven Jackson to hold the Falcons in check. Won’t happen, as Roddy White and Matt Ryan both play at a high level. Atlanta 29 St.Louis 23

Indianapolis at New England - The best rivalry in the NFL, bar none. Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady, always a classic. The Pats showed quite a bit of heart going to Pittsburgh last week to pound the Steelers, and they are now back on top in the AFC. The Colts continue to be banged up, as they will have to have Donald Brown as the feature back again this week. The Pats will once again be inspired against Manning, pulling out a big win. New England 31 Indianapolis 27

New York Giants at Philadelphia – Two big boys in the NFC East, and this game will come down to if Mike Vick can continue his high level of play vs the G-Men. The Giants have to contain him, and also watch for the long balls from Vick to his wide outs. Look for the Giants to try and use Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs to run the ball, but in Philly, it won’t go so well. Philadelphia 23 New York Giants 13

Monday Night:

Denver at San Diego - An AFC West showdown on Monday night, the Broncos put on offensive fireworks last week vs KC, and hope that carries over vs the Chargers. San Diego is 4-5, but with Philip Rivers and the offense clicking despite all the injuries, it’s hard to imagine the Chargers losing at home to a Denver team that has been up and down all year. San Diego 33 Denver 21

Playbook picks: Sorry Favre, Packers to get sweep

NFL.com StaffPublished: November 17th, 2010 | | Tags: Brian Baldinger, Solomon Wilcots, Michael Lombardi, Playbook picks

U-N-I-T-Y — no, it’s not just an old-school hip-hop classic from Queen Latifah. It’s also representative of how the “Playbook” analysts picked this week.

Solomon Wilcots, Michael Lombardi and Brian Baldinger (with an assist from Shawn Springs and Sterling Sharpe) all agree that the Patriots will win their showdown against the Colts, the Packers will sweep Brett Favre’s Vikings and the Steelers will rebound to beat the Raiders.

In fact, there is a consensus on all but three of this week’s 16 games.

Without further ado, take a look at all of their Week 11 picks:

NFL Picks and Commentary

Something we need to know about this blog?
Report it here

The Seattle Seahawks are deemed a considerable contender in NFL lines this season in NFL betting in the NFC West.

The San Francisco 49ers are the mild favorites to get the division with the Arizona Cardinals the 2nd preference. Seattle is the 3-1 third choice in NFL preseason wagering.

NFL preseason probabilities list the Seahawks as 48-1 underdogs to take the Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks could win their own division, though they might not win the Super Bowl. The Cardinals appear much weaker lacking retired quarterback Kurt Warner and receiver Anquan Boldin while San Francisco isn't considered a sure thing either.

The Seahawks have renewed optimism and a fresh head coach in Pete Carroll getting into the 2010 season. The team still possesses Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback. Hasselbeck has directed Seattle to 5 playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in addition to being selected three times for the Pro Bo

There may not be a team that will need to have a fine start in 2010 NFL lines more than the Bears.

The Chicago Bears are coming off a disappointing season a year ago in NFL betting but there is renewed optimism since the Chicago Bears have a new offensive coordinator in Mike Martz. When they open up at San Diego on August 14th, the Bears will get a great early test in 2010 NFL preseason gambling. 2010 NFL preseason odds on the Bears to win the Super Bowl place them as 35-1 long shots. The Bears are given a fair chance in the NFC North though as they're 4.5 to 1 to win the division.

The Chicago Bears made some good off-season moves that should support them to compete in the NFC North this year and in 2010 NFL preseason wagering. They added defensive end Julius Peppers from Carolina and acquired running back Chester Taylor from Minnesota. The biggest addition though is almost certainly Martz. He's anticipated to turn the Chicago of

When the Browns take the field at Raymond James Stadium this week against the home team Buccaneers, sports betting devotees will get to see the game of pro football at its worst. These are 2 very poor squads and they should play a very ugly competition on Sunday in the least awaited matchup of Week 1.

If anyone is interested in observing, kickoff for this Sunday Toilet Bowl is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and the online sports book opened with the Bucs as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 37.

This might be the only time all year that Tampa Bay is favorite in the betting odds but it is improbable you'll want to commemorate the occasion by dropping any cash on the home team considering the Cleveland Browns are going to win this game in Football Bets.

Neither of these squads is very talented and they combined to win only 8 competitions last season (TB 3-13; Cleveland 5-11), but Cleveland is marginally better

NFL game betting points to a three squad competition in the AFC North this season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals ought to be a factor though the Baltimore Ravens are the -130 favorite to win the division in NFL preseason gambling at the sportsbook.

NFL preseason probabilities for the AFC North detail Pittsburgh at 2-1 to win the division whereas Cincinnati has odds just under 3-1. At 10-1, Cleveland is the long shot to win the division. The Browns are actually not regarded as serious contenders so it ought to be a 3 squad contest for the AFC North.

Most NFL experts look at the Ravens as the hot pick to win the AFC North. The Ravens are getting plenty of recognition in NFL preseason odds. The team added wide receiver Anquan Boldin in the off-season and he is supposed to significantly get better the passing competition. The defense has been the strength for Baltimore but they are receiving older and sever

Get ready for the 2010 NFL season, the action is about to get underway. Having considered all the off-field drama, here is my personal considered predictions.

NFC North: The Vikings will be very powerful this year, particularly if Brett never-retire Favre comes back to the quarterback position. The Chicago Bears ought to be better than their 7-9 record a year ago, and could be considered a surprise team out of the NFC. Detroit is expecting a better year, but I hate to day it, are going to be disappointing for their fans again.

NFC East: I had real trouble selecting the winner of this division. But it is pretty hard to pass the Dallas Cowboys. Even with McNabb leaving, the Philadelphia Eagles ought to come second. The Redskins will come in third. Strangely, this leaves the Giants in fourth position. The New York Giants, though fourth, will be a better team than many others in the NFL.

NFC West: No obvious favourite within the NFC West. The two stronges

NFL betting buffs noted a major signing by the Broncos last week.

The Denver Broncos brought in linebacker Elvis Dumervil to a six-year deal worth around $61.5 million. Dumervil is a substantial part of the Denver defense and a competitor who bettors that make an NFL bet know can make a difference.

NFL wagering probabilities on Denver list the Denver Broncos as 40-1 longshots to win the Super Bowl when you review NFL games. The Denver Broncos started last year solidly but faded down the stretch. Dumervil was one of their greatest competitors a year ago. He was recognized with 1 of the biggest contracts in Denver history. The Denver Broncos prolonged a one-year $3.168 million restricted tender deal on Thursday that Dumervil signed last month. The Broncos were actually pleased that Dumervil handled his deal talks in a positive way. He didn't threaten to hold out and Denver rewarded him with a major deal.

In NFL betting, the Green Bay Packers are 1 of the favorite squads by bettors.

They are the faves to win the NFC North and their odds to win the Super Bowl have dropped to 12.5 to 1 when you bet on the NFL. The Green Bay Packers open up in NFL preseason wagering as they compete with the Cleveland Browns on August 14th.

In their preseason opener against the Browns, NFL preseason odds will prefer the Packers. Green Bay is going to be favored a lot in 2010. They're ahead of Minnesota, Chicago and Detroit to win the NFC North at -130. The Packers could be favored in NFL preseason probabilities in all 4 of their matches. They will undoubtedly be liked at home vs Cleveland and Indianapolis and they could be preferred at Seattle and Kansas City. One of the greatest competitions in the preseason probably will be the competition at home against Indianapolis in Week 3 that can be watched on ESPN.

What's Football Pass on Betting and How Can You Put it to use to your Instant Benefit?

When you're initial looking into betting on football, you may be confused by all the terminology. Much like anything else Value Tipster, football betting has its own special language. NFL Picks of the Week

Something we need to know about this blog?
Report it here

The big news this week was Randy Moss returning home to the Vikings. Simply put, we both love this trade for the Vikings. We think that Moss and Favre will play lethal together. Moss has the motivation to play hard because it's his contract year, and Favre is in his final season of his career.Dave's PicksChicago @ Carolina - Julius Peppers returns home to face a rookie quarterback. Good luck rookie!! The Bear's defense will be too much to handle this Sunday. Look for cutler to rebound for a dismal outing against the giants where he was sacked nine times and suffered a concussion. The Bears are going to win by three.Atlanta @ Cleveland - I likes the Falcons in this one. They are the better team on both sides of the ball. I expect Ryan to have a big game against that Browns defense. The Falcons needs another strong road win under their belts. This should be a close game, but the Falcons have a better quarterback. read more

Today the New England Patriots made a big move. They traded Randy Moss back to the Minnesota Vikings, the place where he started his career in the NFL back in 1998The Patriots would be receiving a 2011 third-round draft pick in exchange for the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. Moss wanted a new deal because he's in his final year of his contract but he wouldn't get one from the trade with the Vikings. This is Moss's thirteenth season in the NFL, he's 33 years old and he has played for three different teams so far. He has played 190 games, had 935 receptions with his longest being 82 yards, he has ran 14.604 with 151 touchdowns and 12 fumbles. His current stats for the season with the Patriots are nine receptions, 139 yards and three touchdowns. This trade is going to help Randy Moss because he's going to play more motivated and a motivated Randy Moss is really good Moss. It would also help the Vikings because they're in need of a big time wide receiver since Sidney Rice w read more

Dave's PicksNew York Jets @ Buffalo - Shut down cornerback Darrell Revis should be back for the visiting Jets as they travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills. I expect Quarterback Mark Sanchez to have a very productive day throwing the ball against the Bills defense plus the Jets defense is the best in the league. I think that the Jets are going to win by seven.San Francisco @ Atlanta - Atlanta plays amazing at home. Their offence is explosive which is led by Matt Ryan. They are coming off a very impressive win last week against the defensive champs. San Francisco is struggling to say the least, and they have fired their offence coordinator during this week. On the road San Francisco is a terrible team. I think that the Falcons are going to win by seven.Baltimore @ Pittsburgh - This is my personal favorite game of the week. These teams always play each other tight. I like the Baltimore Ravens in this game if Ray Rice is playing. I think read more

Week two of the NFL season should be easier to call now that we know how the changes the teams made have affected them. Bal @ Cin - Dave thinks that the Baltimore Ravens are going to win the super bowl this year because he thinks they're the most complete team in the league. Their offence was upgraded with the addition of pro bowler receiver Anquan Bolden and their defence is the best in the league. We have the Ravens are going to win by three points. Pit @ Ten - The Pittsburgh Steelers are without their starting quarterback Big Ben, this would pose some problems for their offence. The Tennessee Titans have the best running back in the game today which is Chris Johnson. We would like the Steelers to win this game with their defence because it's one of the best. We think the Steelers are going to win by six points. Jac @ SD - The San Diego Chargers are without wide receiver Vince Jackson due to a suspension which would affect their offence.& read more

The New Orleans Saints are on a roll right now winning the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings by five points and now this stunning win against the San Francisco 49ers by three points with a last minute field goal. This proves that the reigning champs are looking to defend their title and win back to back trophies at this year's Super Bowl. The Saints has lost their star running back Reggie Bush due to an injury he suffered in Monday's victory game against the 49ers. He broke his right leg while recovering his fumbled punt with 6:58 left in the game. According to Coach Sean Payton, "Bush will have a cast on his lower right leg as his broken fibula heals. He is expected to be out about six weeks but could be back after only four if things go well."This injury affects the Saints offence greatly although in the past they have played well without Bush. Since he was drafted second overall in 2006, he has missed 12 games because of various injuries. The Saints are 8-4 in read more

NFL picks of the week: Week 2 picks read more

September 21st, 2010 at 10:18 pm

Week one of the NFL season is finally here guys!! This week tends to be the hardest week for picks the games accurately because there are a lot of unknowns. There were many offseason acquisitions and trades and week one we get to see how these changes work out for their respected teams. Min @ NO - Features the reigning super bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints versus the Minnesota Vikings who welcome back Brett Farve. The games take place in New Orleans which gives the Saints the upper hand because they have their home crowd.
