We’ve spent a lot of fantasy time the last few days on quarterbacks here at the NFL Network and NFL.com. So let’s play something out. If you are in a 12-team league, in an ideal world, who would be the 12 players that would start at quarterback this week and beyond? Who, right now, this moment in time, are the 12 best fantasy QB’s in the game? The first six are easy: your combination of Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, Brees, Vick (even though he’s injured, he’s a must-start when he’s healthy) are the first five. I’d throw Matthew Stafford into that mix as the #6 Fantasy QB in the game. So we’re halfway home.
Cam Newton and Ryan Fitzpatrick grab the next two spots coming off their performances the first two weeks. Fitzpatrick I like a little more than Newton because we have a larger sample for him, but that brings us to eight.
So who gets the Final Four slots? Who are the other four QB’s who deserve to start this week and for at least the next couple?
Tim Tebow: (OK, just wanted to razz Dameshek who finds every opportunity to bring him up in conversation. “Hey how are you today?” “Not as good as Tebow who eventually…”)
For real now.
Kevin Kolb: He’s found his rhythm with Larry Fitzgerald (and by that I mean “Hey Larry, catch!”), but you can’t argue with a really solid first two weeks. He’s getting it faster than I thought. And he plays the Seahawks this week. I expected to wait until mid-season to recommend him as a starter.
Tony Romo: The only thing I question besides his health are the health of his playmakers, which will reveal itself as the week continues. (Alvin Harper may be a strong play on Sunday) But he’s been incredible and as long as he’s not without his guys for long, he’ll be fine.
Matt Hasselbeck: You can’t ignore nearly 700 yards through the air and his chemistry with Kenny Britt. Chris Johnson is still slowly rounding into shape following his holdout, but Air Hasselbeck deserves to start in any league right now. I thought I’d be saying ‘Start Tim Tebow’ before I said ‘Start Hasselbeck’ (okay, enough on Tebow, who eventually…).
Rex Grossman: 305 and 291 through the air the first two weeks. Spreading the ball around. More importantly, 34 pass attempts in Week 1 and 43 in Week 2. Washington is going to keep throwing the football, and Rex has the complete confidence of Mike Shanahan. That John Beck thing is SO two weeks ago.
Narrowly missing the cut: Jay Cutler, Mark Sanchez, Matt Ryan, Kyle Orton and Sam Bradford. Maybe in a couple of weeks, fellas.
