UPDATE II: Rivera told reporters he doesn’t know if Beason’s latest injury is related to his previous injury. The Gaston Gazette is now reporting, according to two sources, the Panthers fear Beason tore his left Achilles’ tendon.
UPDATE: As the reports on Beason roll in, his injury appears as serious as initially believed. According to the Charlotte Observer, Panthers coach Ron Rivera called the injury “dire” and said Beason will have an MRI exam Monday. A source tells the Gaston Gazette that the injury is “very significant.”
Some bad news for the Panthers out of Arizona. Star LB Jon Beason, who missed all of the preseason with a left foot injury, won’t return after suffering what the team called a left ankle injury during the third quarter against the Cardinals.
Beason was injured while running down the field behind Jeff King’s 48-yard TD reception and went down untouched. He immediately grabbed at his left ankle/foot area and was later carted off the sideline to the locker room. There was some doubt Beason would play in the game, as he was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
Beason had surgery on Aug. 22 to repair a bone bruise on his left heel.
Either way, it doesn’t look good for Beason.
