Garrard patient for next opportunity

Free-agent QB David Garrard is out of sight but not completely out of mind.

Garrard was abruptly released two weeks ago by the Jaguars, who are trying to decide if they should fast forward to the Blaine Gabbert era. Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported a couple of weeks back that Garrard had interest from five teams, and told “Around the League” on Monday that the quarterback is being patient for an opportunity to present itself.

“He wants to go somewhere where he’ll have a chance to play sometime in the short-term,” La Canfora said. “A lot of teams want to bring him in as a No. 2, but those teams are in a situation where they’re locked in with their starter as long as he’s healthy. The best option for Garrard at this point may be to wait and see if an injury or a situation develops where a team needs someone to come in and learn a system relatively quickly and play sooner rather than later.”

Beggars can’t be choosers, but a look around the league shows that Garrard might be in for a bit of a wait for a legitimate shot at immediate playing time. But we know it only takes one injury to change that scenario.
