QB Mark Sanchez Dealing With A Bruised Throwing Arm

Quarterback Mark Sanchez bruised his throwing arm after getting hit on an ill-fated pass that coach Rex Ryan wishes he never called. Sanchez, in a vulnerable, arm-extended position when he was slammed to the turf Sunday by Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Matt Roth, didn’t have any tests on his arm or shoulder, Ryan said.

“No, he’s fine,” Ryan said Monday. “(It’s just) a bruise or something.” The play happened near the Jaguars’ goal line early in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ 32-3 rout. They were ahead by 26 points, but Ryan called second- and third-down passes to Plaxico Burress because the veteran receiver had been held without a catch.

Ryan’s decision raises the question of whether he was worried that Burress — known as a diva receiver in his previous incarnation — would complain about not getting the ball.
