A 7-8 record in Miami this season has led to an upset owner (Stephen Ross), a coach on the hot seat (Tony Sparano) and a crowd chanting that the quarterback (Chad Henne) … well, that he just isn’t that good.
The Dolphins have punctuated the downward spiral with a 1-7 home record, the latest loss the result of a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Lions that Yeremiah Bell described as “a total embarrassment.” And the Dolphins were booed on their home field.
On the day after, Channing Crowder supplied us some fuel for the fire, offering up some choice words for fans at Sun Life Stadium who voice their displeasure.
“Like I said, they’re fair-weather fans,” Crowder told reporters. ”You know, cheer when times are going good and boo when times are going bad. We don’t really need you as fans anyway, so it is what it is. You know if they want to get mad and get their point across, but booing a player out their trying his best is, you know, I try not to cuss … but it is what it is.”
As for the head coach, Crowder said the entire team is “100 percent” behind Sparano.
“Like I said before, you got to have a scapegoat,” Crowder said. ”We’re playing, we’re out there on the field, and everybody talking about Tony and Jeff (Ireland), but we’re the ones losing, I guess. The league is a funny league. But, you know, Tony is a great coach, you know, and I like Jeff as well.
“Whatever they decide to do, I have no control over. But the players are the ones out there on the field losing the games, so we got to tighten up.”
