UTEP to face BYU in New Mexico Bowl

UTEP will face BYU in the New Mexico Bowl, the first bowl appearance for the Miners since 2005. The game will be played Dec. 18 to kick off the bowl season.

The two former WAC rivals will meet for the first time since 1998. BYU (6-6) has won 25 of the past 27 meetings between the two schools. This game generally features a matchup between the Mountain West and WAC, but the Miners' proximity to New Mexico helped in the decision.

"We're excited about renewing our long-standing rivalry with BYU in the New Mexico Bowl," UTEP coach Mike Price said in a statement. "It's a great opportunity for our fans to drive down for the game, enjoy postseason play and take in the great city of Albuquerque."

UTEP (6-6) has posted a 5-7 bowl record and is seeking its first postseason win since 1967. Both teams are making their first appearance in the game.
